RECAP

The Strawberrys asserted their dominance in a 5-3 victory over the Baboons, primarily through a relentless cycle game that left their opponents gasping for air. While the score remained relatively competitive, the game flow told a different story; The Strawberrys nearly doubled the Baboons in time on attack, logging 602 seconds in the offensive zone compared to just 319 for the visitors. This sustained pressure eventually cracked the Baboons' defensive shell, with the turning point coming in the second half of the game as the Strawberrys’ top line found their rhythm and pulled away, punctuated by a game-winning effort from their clinical left wing. The night belonged to mashotpa, who put on an offensive clinic with a hat trick and 2 assists for a massive 5-point performance. He was the focal point of every dangerous rush, finishing the game with a perfect 100% shooting percentage on 3 shots. He wasn't alone in the onslaught, as the Strawberrys’ playmakers were firing on all cylinders; Prodigyx8 and Hobo each tallied 3 assists, with the former also providing stability at the dot by winning 13 of 22 faceoffs. On the other side, Therealestbean did his best to keep the Baboons in the hunt, scoring 2 goals on 2 shots, but the lack of consistent support and zone time limited his ability to truly threaten a comeback. The deciding factor in this contest was the sheer disparity in puck possession and offensive zone efficiency. The Strawberrys’ ability to win the possession battle—evidenced by their 119 pass attempts to the Baboons' 94—forced the Baboons into a "bend but don't break" defensive posture that eventually broke. The Strawberrys also controlled the middle of the ice, winning the faceoff battle 13-9, which allowed them to dictate the pace from the drop of the puck. While the Baboons were efficient with the few chances they had, recording 3 goals on just 9 shots, they simply couldn't overcome a 300-second deficit in time on attack.
