The Mighty Deks managed to pull off a 5-3 victory in a game where the stats on the surface suggested a very different outcome. Despite That Was Ugly controlling the pace of play for long stretches and racking up nearly 12 minutes of time on attack (718 seconds), they were unable to convert their offensive pressure into a lead. The turning point was a clinical display of counter-attacking hockey by the Mighty Deks, who remained composed while being outshot 24-16, capitalizing on high-danger rushes while That Was Ugly spent too much time cycling the puck along the perimeter.
The shot quality was the deciding factor, led by a massive 4-point performance from Two Accurate (2 goals, 2 assists). Two Accurate and JNoQuarterJ, who also netted 2 goals, were lethal with the few looks they had, punishing defensive lapses with clinical finishing. On the other side, Po1andsFinest provided some hope for That Was Ugly with 2 goals, and Jeeves2009 chipped in with a 3-point night, but they simply couldn't find the insurance marker despite a high volume of 21 saves forced upon the opposing goaltender.
The ultimate difference was the contrast in efficiency between the two pipes. xFB17 was spectacular for the Mighty Deks, posting a .875 save percentage and turning aside 21 of 24 shots, many of which came during sustained cycles. Conversely, SargeNPrawns struggled to find a rhythm, stopping only 11 of 16 shots for a .688 save percentage. While That Was Ugly won the possession battle by nearly 5 minutes, their inability to get second-chance looks past xFB17 allowed the Mighty Deks to stay opportunistic and skate away with a win built on quality over quantity.
